What Goes Around

Bobby, my son, flew back to Olympia today. I went to work. It was my birthday. Happy Birthday.

After work, I sat in the garage because storms were moving through and though the storm was miserly and denied us rain there was much lightning and thunder. I wanted to be outside, so sitting at the opening of the garage door seemed my only choice. Butterflies didn't mind the thunder. I listened to "All Things Considered" for a few minutes and sipped a cold homebrew. Lightning knocked out the radio station's transmission, so I sat with the loud, white noise for  a while before rising to turn off the radio. Lynne pulled in the garage. I suppose she thought it novel that I sat in the garage. I asked her to sit with me and she did for a while. I said "Sure was nice to have Bobby around every day for a while," and looked to see whether it would make her visibly sad. She said "Sure was." I imagined my Mom and Dad sitting quietly, 35 years ago, and Dad saying "Sure was nice to have Bob around every day for a while," and my Mom answering "Sure was."

Make the most of it. By YOUR lights. Yes, I'm talking to you.
